Mabinogion: illustrated by Alan Lee

Postby Branflakes » 07 May 2014, 03:56

I've been searching and searching the web for the Mabinogion illustrated by Alan Lee. The illustrations look AMAZING, and I feel I must have it.

The problem is, I can't seem to find it anywhere. Somehow I found it on ebay, but for a low of $175. Barnes and Noble has it for $2,420?!

Does anyone know where I can find it for a bit more of a reasonable price?

Try findbookprices.com. It will search the whole internet for you and give you the current cheapest price. If its still too expensive, you can set the price you're willing to pay, and the site will email alert you when it falls below that.

I understand... I've got a book on my list I think I've been waiting for 3 months for it to drop price; no luck.

Yes, thank you, Aphritha! That's a very useful site.

Can you recommend any versions? I don't know enough to have a sense of whether they are all alike, similar, use archaic wording, etc.

Thanks,

I've only read the Jeffrey Gantz translation so far, but I thought it was pretty accessible and enjoyable. I'm planning on reading Guest's version soon, though I've heard people say it's not the best.

Ford's translation is my favorite, if you haven't tried that one yet. :)

Thank you Branflakes and Snægl for the recommendations. I like to read what OBODies think rather than just read Amazon reviews.

List of translations so far:
