Petition: Industrial units planned near Tor

Postby ShadowCat » 24 Mar 2015, 08:18

Change just sent me the petition "Mendip District Council: Reject the planning permission for 11 New Light Industrial Units on derelict Industrial Land at the Skateboard Park Beckery Glastonbury Somerset":

https://www.change.org/p/mendip-distric ... responsive

If this is true, I consider it a worrysome development. Could someone closer to this enlighten me?

Hi Shadowcat,

I've just looked at the site on Google-earth and the skate park website. It is, as the application states, the redevelopment of an already industrial site.

This is is the area: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Bec ... fe8d28360c

The skate-park is the concrete square just below the sewage treatment works.

This is the planning app map:
http://publicaccess.mendip.gov.uk/onlin ... B1TKPFRH00

There is clear encroachment into the adjoining field with the removal of an established hedgerow and some mature trees. This is entirely unnecessary as there is redundant brownfield further up Beckery Old Road.

Protesters need to concentrate on protecting these, rather than the view, and restricting the height of the proposed development.
