Breton cuss words ?

Postby D'Arzhur » 08 Jun 2009, 09:50

Demat,
Following the cuss words post in the Irish forum I realise that I would not mind knowing a few breton cuss words or at least One
I mean, that would allow me to stop using english, french and dutch "bad" words and the mental challenge I am faced with  (you know like swearing in french when in the Netherlands and in dutch when in France -to maintain the appearance of proper behavior where required -or in english whether in France or the Netherlands when it is imperative that everyone understands ! :-) )...
So if anyone can indulge me and provide me with 1 breton cuss word (pronunciation & spelling would be appreciated but are not mandatory  ) I would be very grateful and I promised to drink a horn of Chouchenn to your health :)

Hi d'Arzhur!!!

Sorry for not reponding for such a long time - I had many things to do and did not really visit the boards....

But now that I'm here:
Gast! Mil a c'histi! Kac'h! Kac'h ki du! Toui! Mallac'h toui!

No I am not going to translate all this
It is a bit how I feel right now - Just 'home' (the irony of the word) from Brittany, missing my country and missing my boyfriend....and the music and my friends and....oh gast an diaoul (that one's quite gross), I'll stop before it gets pathetic. :o

Chans vat get da di e Breizh,

my favourite one is 'kac'h ki du', meaning 'black dog sh*t'. In breton it is not as gross as in english....Like gast which means in French 'putain', and is used just as current...these words seem so gross in English, but in Breton they are quite normal. As in: everybody I know uses them, almost...

Gast will be the one you use the most where I'm from , but Corr also , I can translate it in french will not hurt many people ! :???:
Gast ; Putain
Corr : merde .
Pemor buen , means little pigs , and that it is said kindly to children when they are messy , but pemor alone is quite an insult ! :)

I really don't know if you can write it like this since for me was only a spoken language and used by my grand mother , it is also maybe use only in my area , I don't know !? ...

Kenavo ! :)

Hi Oonagh,

The correct spellings for your words:
gast was right (and is the most used of all...)
'corr' is written as 'kac'h'
'pemor buen' = 'pemoc'h bihan'

And all of these words are widely used :)

Enjoy

Are you also looking for French cuss words? Seems to me the Bretagne ones will serve you anywhere, even in the non-bretagne France, as every other french fry looks aghast at the Celtic language. LOL

I'm SO glad my ancestors are Bretagnes!
