Recently I have been noticing posts which obviously don't belong on this forum. eg ads. Since the upgrade I think. Just wondered if admins are on to it? Thanks.

Hi yes we have being having a bit of a spam attack
- we are fighting it and trying to improve the security around the set up of new users to stop 'bots' from getting setup.

most sweet the sight of the sun;
good is health if one can but keep it,
and to live a life without shame. (Havamal 68)

Hello winterfire :hiya:

I think all the spam was deleted. Remember the Report a Post Button - It's the exclamation point on the top right. That always helps the admin see the spam-bots. :D

Thank you much :tiphat:

That was a bit intense this morning! :fence:

Possibly an extra defence is needed. Perhaps if a registered poster types out a word shown in a picture before each posting to beat the 'bots? A few seconds delay and no real inconvenience.

In the meanwhile, I suggest we collectively compose a millteoracht, that whoever spoils our fun with spam is immediately assailed with the fleas of a thousand hedgehogs upon their tend’rest privy parts…

Just a suggestion

Thanks again, tech-wizards

Hi, Green Raven,

The board software does not, so far as I am aware, provide the ability for us to require a verification code before posts. The only place where we can have a CAPTCHA is at registration.

Unfortunately, according to my brief research, unless our spammers are hedgehogs (unlikely, at best), hedgehog fleas won't have much effect. From Care Rehabilitation and Aid for Sick Hedgehogs:
Hedgehog fleas only live on hedgehogs. They like the cool open environment of the coarse and widely spaced spines where it can run fast. If it finds itself in the dense, warm coat of a dog or cat, it immediately knows it’s in the wrong place and drops off to wait for another hedgehog. The same goes for hedgehog fleas that get onto humans, they do not stay long before leaving to find a proper host.

Hi Selene,

Thanks for replying.

That's a pity. I guess it's back to reporting and banning then.

(Shame about the hedgehog fleas. Will those of Rattus rattus do? Historically, that's a gift that keeps on giving  )
