Just wondering if this project is still happening. It would be a shame for it to disappear....

I'm still interested but feel that we need to push forward or let the idea go. We've been discussing it since Brianna first posted the idea in January of 2009! Putting a long-distance group project together can be a little like herding cats

Quick recap.

okay, so we have the following:

material - preshrunk, color-fast cotton" or 'patchwork' cotton or preshrunk dye-fast recycled material
size - 12 by 12 inches (30 by 30 cm)

Squares pledged:
1 cec235
2 silverleaf willow
3 oakapple
4 Aurora
the 3 squares already done
8 plaidcat

questions:
Is everyone who pledged a square still interested?

Oakapple, did you talk to your sister in law about putting the quilt together?
Is there someone else who will volunteer for this?

Do we want to stay with the same theme of Druidry and Nature? (will take a minimum of 9 squares)
Do we want to change the theme and go with the calendar theme ? (for this we'd need 12 squares)
The three squares that are already done can still be used for the calendar idea, they just won't refer specifically to any one month. They can be used as fillers for those months that are not covered by pledges .

any thoughts, ideas, questions, answers?

I think we have a better chance of competeing the quilt with the Druidry and nature theme as we only need 1 more square to get the minimum number of 9 :D

Who would people be sending there square to once its finished?

Dear Willow, Aurora, Oakapple and all the others who have taken an interest in this thread,

it's me, the long lost Brianna who started all this. Let me first say: I'm sorry! Please forgive me for having received your squares about friggin 6 years ago and not doing anything with them. Well, I've moved them. In this time we moved house 3 times and I have been out of touch with this board, and OBOD. What happened? Life! To tell you, I would have to write a book. But all these years I held your squares in my hands, time and time again, and each time I had SUCH a bad conscience!

I felt so guilty, I can't tell you how much. And now, after life has settled down again, I actually started quilting again. Caused by a move just this year, well Feb. 2015 really, to a flat where I have my own room... I got a sewing machine again and in the village next to ours - miraculously - there is a huge shop for fabrics and sewing supplies... So I did it, I went down to the cellar, went through the old boxes and found them again. All of them.

And then I did my own, as I promised I would. My own 30 x 30 cm square to add. But I'm thinking that putting it all together for the big quilt for Philip, it needs somebody more experienced in quilting than me. I'm only a beginner after all, just looking to have fun with it and be creative. Cause there's nothing better for being creative than quilting!

So, I'm attaching the picture from the squares that I got. From Willow, Aurora and Oakapple. And mine. Let me know who wants to put them toghether, and I'll put them into the mail for you.

Let's do this! It has been a good idea and it still is. I for one would love to give a quilt to Philip, something to pin up to the wall at gatherigs of OBOD. Something that will eventually end up in his posession... in thanks to his immense contribution to making OBOD big enough that it even reaches folks in all countries of Europe, even here, in a remote village in Bavaria, Germany. Philip has deserved more than we can ever give him, and I am so thankful to have had a ritual with him and the German OBOD members years ago on that hilltop in Franconia....

but I'm veering off toppic :-) First of all I have to ask all of you to forgive me. It's been years and I didn't even remember the password to log into the forum, but better late than never.... right?

Welcome back Brianna!

I'm so pleased you were able to make your square at last. I am happy to join the squares together and do the quilting unless someone else feels the urge. My square looks rather wonky, I think it could do with a bit of adjustment! The squares we have are very balanced, 2 with circles and 2 with squares, and should go together well.

If I am going to do it , it would be good to have some ideas for a quilting pattern. My first thoughts are either "in the ditch" - along the joining lines, or one big Awen symbol in the 3 circles over the whole quilt.

Maybe we could get it done for the summer gathering in Glastonbury....

Thank you. Yes, very busy... in a good way. What can I say... "1st it turns out differently... and 2nd... as we thought!" (German proverb)

I would just need your address again please, if you could PM that to me. I think the big Awen would be great, albeit of course more difficult. I think we should start sending them to you right away, because it's a lot of work. Oh how I would love to be in one room with all of you, and some tea, and do it together, chatting away.... *sigh*

3 x 3 squres would be even better, bigger than 2 x 2. Maybe a few more would volunteer to send squares, now that it's on again?
Warm greetings Brianna

Brianna, I have sent you a pm.

I've also put the idea on the OBOD members Facebook page as more people seems to be there nowadays.

If we get some more squares which would be good, maybe my Glastonbury idea is too soon, but there is no rush really.

Thank you Heddwen, I had such fun doing it. It's been a long time since I did any embroidery or quilting for that matter. Working through the Bardic grade got my creative juices flowing again. :yay: I can't wait to see the finished project.
