Druid Year: 296 to Druid Year 300 with Ceremony!

Postby treegod » 30 Aug 2014, 13:02

(just a bit of fun :) )

Yes, it is the Druid Year 296. On 24th Sept it will be 297. And next year, 13th Oct, it will be 298! Based on the following legend, which OBOD has connections with.
Ross Nichols in 'The Book of Druidry' wrote that MacGregor Reid told of a history in which John Toland, on the day of the Autumn Equinox 1716 at Primrose Hill, (where began the Welsh Gorsedd of Bards), called for Druids to meet at the Apple Tree Tavern, Covent Garden, London a year and a day later, and that the meeting which formed An Druidh Uileach Braithreachas ie. The Druid Circle of the Universal Bond took place on 22 September 1717 with representatives from London, York, Oxford, Wales, Cornwall, The Isle of Man, Scotland, Anglesey, Ireland and Brittany. [From Wiki article on the ADO]
Instead of the year changing directly on the Autumn Equinox, I've added that the first new moon after the Autumn Equinox is the new year, so we have a Solar-Lunar year. I suppose that means we'll have 12 or 13 months per year. I'm still wondering about month names. Anyone know any traditional Celtic names for the moons?

I was born in the year 264, on the I-don't-know-what day of perhaps the ¿5th/6th/7th? moon (I'll make the calculations some other time  ).

I'd forgotten about this! Well, wasn't expecting much of a celebration, but it's certainly a milestone in modern Druidry.

Nice to be welcomed back. Been quite busy since last year, not least because my daughter was born, nearly one year ago. If I spend more time on the computer, I may make more appearances here.

May there be peas throughout the whole world! (yes, peas, mushy ones thrown around by a baby enjoying her food :D )

Michael, the titles great. :D
