Veganuary

Postby Erithacus » 28 Dec 2015, 12:33

I think this is relevant to this section of the forum.

Is anyone else doing Veganuary?

This is a campaign to encourage people to try vegan for the month of January....obviously with the hope that some will stick to it or at least start having more frequent animal-free meals.

I have pledged to do this. I am an omnivore, but have found that I am moving increasingly more towards vegetarianism (not necessarily vegan-ism) and feeling increasingly more guilty when I do it animal products. I am fairly well educated about animal welfare and this should be reason enough for me to stop eating meat. Unfortunately, I haven't taken the full plunge due to fear of ridicule by my family and close friends (they are likely to complain that it is awkward to cater for me!) Stupid, I know, and all just a big excuse for me to not commit to it properly!

So I have told lots of family and friends about Veganuary so they can think it's a little trial, and I can then just stick to it (mostly) afterwards!

Anyone else going Vegan in January? Or maybe you are vegan and have some amazing recipes for me to try!?

:hiya:

I'm vegan every month, but I do have recipe suggestions!

Minimalist Baker posts a lot of good vegan stuff http://minimalistbaker.com/recipe-index/

Another popular vegan cooking blog is http://ohsheglows.com/

My personal favorite is http://www.theppk.com/recipes/ since it has more comfort foods. Isa Chandra Moskowitz (who runs this one) is also one of my all time favorite cookbook authors. Appetite for Reduction is my favorite one of hers (simple and healthy recipes you can get ingredients for at most normal stores).

Oh, and I first went vegan for a month to test it out. Next thing I know it's been 8 years and I haven't looked back! My family came around to it. Even my heavily meat eating in-laws try to make sure I have options for holiday dinners.
