Something I wrote this morning for winter solstice

Postby elementalheart » 21 Dec 2017, 18:52

Shortest Day

From ever shortening, hard grey days
And endless frozen winter nights
Anxious and shivering as life recedes
Once more the world turns

The tide of daylight reached the lowest ebb
Hit that blackest midnight
And lived the hardest moment through
Making that breathless aching choice

Turned around, fixed sights on that most distant hope
And took that first and smallest step

A single spark in all the world of night
Can be enough

It won't be easy with battering storms to come
And all around in doubt
But light that candle, bring the flame to wood
Sing and dance, call out your good news to the stars

Then rest and know
Spring is coming minute by minute on the dawn
Each sunset slower, more glorious on the snow
Until the wisest snowdrop lifts
Confident from black earth
To greet the sun
