Help needed for tattoo design

Postby blackadonai » 03 Jun 2010, 16:44

Hello just signed up so I apologised if this is in the wrong place but anyway on to my question. I would like to get "y gwir yn erbyn y byd" tattooed around my wrist in ogham script but I'm having trouble finding a translation. I came across these forums in my search and thought this would be one of my best bets at getting help. I will post my design here as soon as I can get the translation so i can hear what others think about it. Thanks in advance for any help.

Do you mean a translation into English or a translation into Ogham script? In English "y gwir yn erbyn y byd" is usually translated as "The truth against the world".

If you're wanting the Welsh translated into Ogham script, I think you might do better posting this in our Ogham studies forum, blackadonai. I'll move it there and leave a shadow topic here. If that doesn't bring any responses, you can also try posting your request in the Welsh subforum, which you'll find under The Circle of Stones category.

I'm looking to get the welsh translated to the ogham script and I already knew the English translation and I think it's a wonderful saying which is why I want the tattoo.

P.s. I wouldn't mind if it was translated to Irish and the to ogham if that would be simpler.

It would be simplest to get the BethLuisNion font, or similar, and write it out in whatever language you like to see how it appears in ogam.

This page is more useful if you want background info and ancient and modern examples of the script, horizontal, vertical, ect..

Oooh... Omniglot is an awesome site... thanks! Wouldn't it be funny if the Phaistos disc was just an account of merchant, as in, this customer bought some leather gloves, a funny crested helmet, a fish, and hide, and they bought it at this time of day or season, as the dial turns. Maybe like a running tab for a big customer, or an entire district, or something. Hehehe... I think that would be hilarious. So many cool systems listed... many hours to spend... *big, goofy grin*

Hey, when you get your tattoo, will you post a pic here? :) Would love to see it.
