Thankfully, the Mayan Calender doesn't end on 21.12.2012, that's a popular misinterpretation.
No, that conception seems to be accurate, at least if you can trust the Wiki articles:
According to the Popol Vuh, a book compiling details of creation accounts known to the K'iche' Maya of the Colonial-era highlands, we are living in the fourth world.[29] The Popol Vuh describes the first three creations that the gods failed in making and the creation of the successful fourth world where men were placed. In the Maya Long Count, the previous creation ended at the start of a 14th b'ak'tun.
The previous creation ended on a long count of 12.19.19.17.19. Another 12.19.19.17.19 will occur on December 20, 2012, followed by the start of the 14th b'ak'tun, 13.0.0.0.0, on December 21, 2012.

The idea that the world may end on that date, though, is
probably just New Age misconception....I mean, the recently discovered Tortuguero inscription that claims Bolon Yokte, a Mayan god associated with war and creation, will "descend from the sky" at that time, is probably not being seen in context....plus, maybe Bolon Yokte has changed....mellowed....
